The Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram is a plot of the brightness of stars as a function of a temperature parameter such as effective temperature, color index, or spectral type. Most of the stars are dwarfs, and lie along the main sequence. Other luminosity classes are labeled as supergiants, bright giants, and so on.
