Our Team Members, 2011-2012
Tyler Desjardins
Tyler received a Bachelor's degree in astronomy from the University of Florida, a Master's degree in astronomy from Wesleyan University, and is currently a PhD student in astronomy at The University of Western Ontario. He has also worked at the Space Telescope Science Institute on the Hubble Space Telescope repair in May 2009. His research concerns individual galaxies and systems of galaxies in radio, optical, and X-ray wavelengths, as well as accreting black holes in other galaxies.
Presentation expertise: X-ray astronomy, the history of astronomy, ancient mythology and the night sky, galaxies, and stellar evolution.
Emily McCullough
Emily completed an HBSc in astrophysics at Saint Mary's University, where she participated in tours of the Burke Gaffney Observatory and worked with school groups. She has since received an MSc in Astronomy with a specialization in Planetary Science from The University of Western Ontario, and has stayed on to complete a PhD in the same field. Emily has been involved with tours at the Cronyn Observatory since she began working at UWO. Her current research uses a lidar (laser radar) to study the Earth's atmosphere in the Canadian Arctic to better understand the atmospheres of other worlds.
Presentation expertise: the Solar System, constellations, telescopes, Mars, and the Moon.
Robin Wing
Robin completed an HBSc in Physics and Biology at The University of Western Ontario and is currently working on earning a Master's degree in Physics. His current research interests include: planetary atmospheres, climate dynamics, and instrument development at the Purple Crow LIDAR Observatory.
Presentation expertise: cosmology, astrobiology, the solar system, and Mars.
